Sydney Chinese New Year Festival begins

The City of Sydney will celebrate the Year of the Dragon and the beginning of the Sydney Chinese New Year Festival by transforming Belmore Park into a feast of colours and flavours for the Festival's launch this evening.

Belmore Park will become a feast of colours and flavours as the City of Sydney's Lunar New Year celebrations begin with a fabulous free launch at the Chinese New Year Markets tonight.

A traditional eye-dotting ceremony will bring dragons and lions to life as firecrackers scare off the previous year's misfortunes with spectacular sparkle and plenty of loud bangs. There will also be live entertainment from international performers, including a sneak preview of the Sydney Chinese New Year Festival Parade and an array of flavours to enjoy at the many food stalls.

The world famous Flickerfest enjoyed opening night at Bondi Pavilion tonight.
